An enquiry was held to consider why Jason Hart had continued in the race on LORD OF THE PACE (IRE), unplaced, when the gelding appeared to have lost its action in the home straight. The rider, Mark Johnston's representative and the Veterinary Officer were interviewed and recordings of the incident were viewed. The Veterinary Officer stated that, upon inspection post-race, LORD OF THE PACE (IRE) was sound and exhibited no other abnormalities, however was blowing quite hard. The rider stated that in running he felt nothing abnormal in the gelding's action, but noted that LORD OF THE PACE (IRE) was blowing quite hard on pulling up. The trainer's representative further added that the gelding had shown no signs of an unusual gait at home, but appears to have become uncoordinated in its action when tiring in the closing stages of the race. The Stewards noted these explanations.
