Lusaka (IRE), trained by Olly Murphy, was late into the parade ring due to difficulties in fitting the first- time tongue strap.
Charlie Price, the rider of Tribal Commander (GB), was unseated on the bend leaving the back straight during the final circuit.
Price was interviewed and shown recordings of the incident.
It was found that no other horse or rider was involved, and the incident had been caused by Tribal Commander (GB) slipping behind and losing its action, causing Price to be unseated.
The winner, Coastal Sun (FR), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Hereford on 8 November 2022 where the mare finished eighth of thirteen runners, beaten 44 lengths in a Class 5 handicap.
Alistair Ralph could offer no explanation, other than the mare appeared to benefit from dropping into a less competitive novices’ claimer on this occasion.
Coastal Sun (FR) was routine tested.
Following the race, Lewis Dobb reported that Lady P (IRE), unplaced, hung-left handed throughout and Jake Coulson indicated that the mare would be better suited by a left-handed track in future.
