Leaving the stalls, Lady Monica (GB), placed fifth, shifted quickly right carrying Avebury (IRE), placed eighth, off its intended line and on to Rainbow Mirage (GB), placed sixth, giving the filly a slight bump, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved, and that it had not improved the placing of Lady Monica (GB).
Following the race, Adam Kirby reported that Avebury (IRE), placed eighth, became unbalanced in the later stages so eased the filly down and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Avebury (RE), during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
