KNIGHTWOOD (IRE) wore ear plugs which were removed at the start.
Permission was given for Croeso Cymraeg (GB) to be led to post early, wearing a red hood and to be mounted on the course and for Captain Kane (GB) to wear a red hood to post.
Having reviewed the start the Stewards were satisfied that Arrange (IRE) had refused to race and was deemed to be a runner.
Approximately 1 ½ furlongs out, Auld Toon Loon (IRE), placed fifth, shied quickly right-handed away from the winner, Knightswood (IRE), which had edged right-handed, causing Zimmerman (GB), placed sixth, to be briefly short for room, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of any runner.
The performance of Zimmerman (GB) which started second favourite and finished unplaced, was considered.
Tim Easterby could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance, other than Zimmerman (GB) may have been unsuited by the front running tactics on this occasion.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post- race examination of the gelding, during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Following the race, Ben Robinson reported that Auld Toon Loon (IRE), placed fifth, ran too free.
