Having reviewed the start the Stewards were satisfied that Duck Egg Blue (IRE) had refused to race after the start had been effected and was therefore deemed to be a runner.
The Starter reported that Duck Egg Blue (IRE) had refused to race after the start was effected.
The rider Henry Brooke, Liam Bailey and the Starter were interviewed and shown recordings of the start.
As the mare had also refused to race at Musselburgh on 06 November 2019 and at Southwell on 24 October 2019, Duck Egg Blue’s (IRE) behaviour was referred to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority.
The winner Island Villa (IRE) appeared to show improved form, compared with its previous run at Catterick on 17 December 2019 where the gelding finished eleventh of fourteen runners, beaten by 43 lengths.
The representative of Rebecca Menzies could offer no explanation for the Island Villa’s (IRE) improved form other than the gelding may have benefited for being ridden wide and away from the other runners on this occasion.
Island Villa (IRE) was routine tested.
