Not a nice race to watch, with favourite PHOENIX ICE, absent since May '06, pulling up quickly after halfway. His rider later reported his mount was hanging badly during the race.

There was also a nasty incident inside the final furlong where the staying on SWEET SURPRISE clipped heels and slipped up, and brought down JUPITER PEARL (out of contention). Thankfully both riders were eventually ok, although SWEET SURPRISE's rider was removed to hospital with concussion, while both horses were ok, although JUPITER PEARL did take some time to get to her feet. SWEET SURPRISE was in the process of running a nice race on her comeback run.

YAMEELL ran out the game winner, making most of the running to win what looked an ordinary contest. According to winning trainer David Marnane, "YAMEELL doesn't like soft ground, has lots of ability and will mix it between Flat and hurdling now."

REDEEMABLE ran a sound race, but may have difficulty winning a maiden and is now eligible for a handicap while VINTAGE BAROLO showed improved form to take third and may be of interest in handicap company.

REDWATER RIVER looks a little limited but cannot be written off quite yet while PUSSYFOOTING was a little disappointing.

Non-Runners were the three reserves.
