A remarkable performance by JUST FOR MARY to win here, having missed the break and been dead last at halfway. However, the gelding fairly flew home on the outer and eventually won by a length. The winner is a buzzy sort and was mounted on the track and taken down early.

According to trainer Philip Rothwell, "JUST FOR MARY is no star but wants quick ground and likes the all-weather surface. It was probably a stroke of luck to win, as the pace was possibly too strong in the early stages and we'll stay handicapping now."

Consistent JOHNSTOWN LAD raced prominently and was again unlucky to have been pegged back by the fast finishing winner. It probably goes without saying that he and third placed POINT CALIMERE can win from their current marks. Indeed, POINT CALIMERE broke through the stalls not once but twice. However, he did not expend too much energy either time and was brought to a stop immediately the second time by his rider.

RADIATOR ROONEY was carrying a 5lb penalty for a recent win and stayed on well for a close in fourth. His rider was subsequently cautioned by the stewards following a minor incident over a furlong out.

FLY BY MAGIC was herself short of room over a furlong out but appeared to be beaten at that point.
