Permission was given for Laqab (IRE) to go early to post.

An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Thunder Buddy (GB), ridden by Rhona Pindar and trained by K R Burke, which, having jumped level, was switched wide down the back straight and soon lost ground under tender handling to finish last of eleven, beaten by 33 ½ lengths.

The rider and the trainer’s representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that Thunder Buddy (GB) was slightly lame on its left hind.

The rider stated that her instructions were to sit handy keeping Thunder Buddy (GB) out of the kickback and to achieve the best possible placing.

She explained that although she jumped level, the gelding wasn’t travelling well enough to hold her position and so had to give ground halfway down the back straight but, in doing so, found herself in the kickback and that’s why she switched wide.

She added that once out of the kickback, she asked Thunder Buddy (GB) to make up ground to join the rear of the field, but was concerned when he failed to pick up and felt that he was moving poorly so she allowed him to come home in his own time.

The trainer’s representative confirmed the instructions and was satisfied with the ride, given the rider’s concern that the gelding was moving poorly.

Their explanations were noted.

However, Pindar was fined £140 for failing to report that Thunder Buddy (GB) did not face the kickback and was moving poorly.

Following the race, Michael Appleby's representative reported that Casement (IRE), placed eighth, is better suited by a turf track, Dylan Hogan reported that Glory Awaits (IRE), unplaced, had no more to give and the Veterinary Officer reported that Laqab (IRE), placed sixth, had lost its left hind shoe.
