Paddy Brennan, the rider of Perculator (GB), which finished sixth of ten runners, beaten by 6 ¼ lengths, was asked to explain his riding inside the final ½ furlong where the filly appeared to be considerably eased on the run to the line for approximately twelve strides.
The Stewards interviewed Brennan and viewed recordings of the race after which he explained that Perculator (GB) had ran greenly early in the contest before then travelling as if something was amiss when approaching the finishing line.
Brennan advised that he had therefore felt it prudent to ease in his riding as a precaution in the final stage of the race.
He added that upon weighing in, he reported that he was unsure whether his mount was sound post-race.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Perculator (GB) found the filly to have sustained a small wound to its right-hind and moving a little unevenly when trotted up.
Brennan’s explanation was accepted.
