I wasn't expecting him to win by that far and I was a little worried about the ground. I didn't think the ground would be a problem but we haven't ran him on that ground before. The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, P.L. Malone, that S.W. Flanagan, rider of Ned's Island, had weighed in at 1.7lbs overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that he did not realise that he had to do 10 stone 7lbs. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that S.W. Flanagan was in breach of Rule 231 and therefore suspended him for 2 racedays having taken his previous record into consideration. Mr Michael Murphy, Acting Steward, did not attend this enquiry. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that Mr D.L. Queally was in breach of Rule 231 and therefore cautioned him as this was his first offence. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Successor, trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal. J.J. Slevin, rider of Moroval trained by Henry de Bromhead, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount felt lame and was pulled up.
