An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race following Valshan Time (IRE), placed sixth, ridden by Mitchell Bastyan, crashing through a section of dolled off railings after jumping the penultimate flight, before running just inside the birch upright of that rail and continuing in the race.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the incident.
Having heard his evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that Valshan Time (IRE) had ducked sharply left-handed despite the rider’s best efforts to prevent him from doing so and, as the doll was intended to preserve ground and keep the runners off the inside of the track he had not taken the wrong course, nor had he gained any advantage by taking that line.
The Stewards noted his explanation and ordered the placings to remain unaltered.
Following the race, Page Fuller reported that Scrutinise (GB), placed fifth, hung left throughout.
Mitchell Bastyan reported that Valshan Time (IRE), placed sixth, hung sharply left after the second last hurdle and collided with the dolled off rail.
