An enquiry was held to consider whether Mr Stefan Kirwan, the rider of Doctor Thea (GB), placed seventh, had continued in the race when his horse appeared to have gone lame.
The rider and the Veterinary Officer were interviewed and recordings of the incident were viewed.
The Veterinary Officer stated that Doctor Thea (GB) was lame on its left fore leg.
The rider’s explanation that he felt the mare go lame three or four strides before the post and he dismounted straight after the line, was accepted.
Being a 7 lb claimer Mr Kirwan was offered to be accompanied in the enquiry but declined.
Following the race the Veterinary Officer reported that Oscar Ceremony, placed fifth, lost its left fore shoe.
