The Stewards requested a report from Robert Hennessey, representing Ms. Sandra Hughes, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Canaly, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer's representative reported that the horse disappointed on his last start when failing to handle the testing ground. He added that today's drying conditions helped his charge return to form. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
An extended handicap steeplechase for ten yrs old and upwards (145 = 11st 10lb)
Penalties - Winner of a steeplechase after calculation of the handicap to carry 6lb extra for each such steeplechase won. Any horse rated above 145 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 11st 10lb.
