I hadn't him declared at 10am yesterday and with the new HRI initiative of reopening races with a small amount of runners, he was the first one I've ever declared after 10am. I said we'd chance it and it worked out for us,. I was delighted with him because I didn't think he could be that straight and I wondered was I running him too quick before the Ladbrokes (Trophy, at Newbury). He was very fresh and very free and that was smart to do that today. I imagine he goes to the Ladbrokes now and I'm told he has a mandatory 4lbs penalty for winning this. I had Paul on the two chasers today and Ruby on the hurdlers, that's all, and with the big weekend ahead that was the only reason. Paul was good on this fellow before and I don't know if there is a queue to ride Camelia De Cotte (in the next)!. And Paul is going well in the Championship too so I'd be delighted to see him Champion again but who knows as it's an open year. Weights - 4-y-o 10st 10lb; 5-y-o and up 11st 5lb; Mares allowed 7lb
Allowances - Horses which have not won a steeplechase before 30th April, 2017 allowed 4lb
Penalties - (handicaps excluded) to count from 1st May, 2017 Winner of three steeplechases or a Grade 3 steeplechase 3lb extra; Of two Grade 3 steeplechases or a Grade 2 steeplechase 5lb extra; Of a Grade 1 steeplechase 7lb extra; HRI Directive 6 (ii) (b) is suspended for the purpose of this race.
