4 Ran
Famous Name put in a very impressive performance in landing this and providing Dermot Weld with a Guineas Trial double. The Dansili colt had little to beat in this four runner contest but he could not have been any more impressive in what he done with Pat Smullen seemingly having plenty in reserve at the death.
It is a race in which Rosewell House have enjoyed some good success with Grey Swallow and Refuse To Bend the most recent recruits from the Curragh yard to land the race and the Irish 2000 Guineas is likely to be next item on the agenda for this winner. The Italian Derby was also earmarked as a possibility and Weld admitted to looking forward to the three-year-old stepping up in trip later in the year.
Moiqen was the most inexperienced runner in the field and claimed the minor honours here four lengths behind the winner. It was a somewhat encouraging performance by a horse who won his maiden at Navan on good to firm ground and would surely prefer it quicker that today's yielding, yielding to soft in places.
Of the Aidan O'Brien duo that left the stalls, (Great Rumuscat was withdrawn at the start for refusing to load) Hebridean finished eight lengths in front of Greek Mythology who was first off the bridle surprisingly enough.
It was a very disappointing effort by the Mr Greely colt and it is back to the drawing board with him while Hebridean ran a decent enough race considering he was an unsuccessful handicapper last term.
