The first two-year-old honours of the season went to the James Burns trained Cool Tarifa who was a worthy winner of this five furlong contest in the hands of Fran Berry. The daughter of One Cool Cat just stripped fitter than her seven rivals on what was extremely testing conditions for these young horses.
The winner came from a yard who got off the mark seven days earlier at Cork and always travelled well but followers would have had an odd anxious moment when she struggled to get a gap. However, under a patient ride the gaps opened a furlong down to let the winner go on and score by a length and a half.
Following home the winner was the Jim Bolger trained Comadoir who put up a brave front running display and battled on to the line even when Cool Tarifa went to the front. Kevin Manning's mount is a son of Medecis who himself was a multiple winner on testing conditions and this fellow should go on to score before long.
One that caught the eye for a number of reasons was the favourite Vilasol who was slowly in to stride out of the stalls and was pushed along early to keep in touch. The grey son of Verglas was never really travelling smoothly but plugged away to finish fourth just over six lengths off the winner.
In third was Dreams Forever who made a promising debut and on the basis of this run suggested that he certainly wants further.
Of the winner, James Burns revealed he was hopeful that she may be progress into a Royal Ascot two-year-old and that better ground would not inconvenience her.
