The Stewards interviewed Mr R.P. Quinlan, rider of Pumbaa, concerning his use of the whip on the run up the hill away from the final fence. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were satisfied that Mr R.P. Quinlan was in breach of R10(3)(e) by hitting his mount other than down the shoulder or on the hind quarters and consequently severely cautioned him having taken his clean previous record into consideration.

A novice steeplechase for four yrs old and upwards which at entry are rated of 130 or less
Weights - 4-y-o 10st 4lb; 5-y-o 11st 2lb; 6-y-o and up 11st 3lb
Penalties - Winner of a steeplechase 4lb extra; Of two steeplechases 7lb extra; Horses that have not run three times in steeplechases and/or do not have a published handicap steeplechase rating may enter and run at the discretion of the handicapper provided their performances are rated 130 or less.
