Permission was given for Brazen Belle (GB) to go early to post.
The winner, Van Gerwen (GB), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Beverley on 19 July 2021, where the gelding finished thirteenth of fourteen, beaten by 10½ lengths.
It was noted that the representative of Paul Midgley could offer no explanation for the gelding’s improved form.
Van Gerwen (GB) was routine tested.
The winner, Van Gerwen (GB), jumped awkwardly from the stalls and shifted left-handed at the same time as Freedom Flyer (IRE), placed sixth, edged slightly right, badly crowding Khabib (IRE), placed second, which in turn caused Ruby Wonder (GB), placed seventh, to be checked when tightened for room, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved and it had not improved the placing of Van Gerwen (GB).
Following the race, David Allan reported that Ruby Wonder (GB) ran too freely.
