A query was raised to consider why Sam England was running Near Kettering (GB) here at Worcester on going described as Good, having previously reported that the gelding was not suited by ground with the same official description following its run at Bangor on 17 April 2021.
The representative of Sam England stated that on the previous occasion, the ground at Bangor was, in their opinion, patchy and having walked the track today, they felt that the surface here at Worcester was genuine good ground and so they were therefore happy for Near Kettering (GB) to take its chance.
The winner, Mix Of Clover (GB), appeared to show improved form, compared with its previous run at Worcester on 27 May 2021 where the gelding finished fifth of fourteen runners, beaten by 19½ lengths.
Alistair Ralph explained that Mix Of Clover (GB) had appreciated the drop back in trip from 2 miles and 4 furlongs to 2 miles.
He added that the gelding may also have needed its last run after a break.
His explanation was noted and Mix Of Clover (GB) was routine tested.
Following the race, Tom Scudamore reported that he thought Novis Adventus (IRE) had lost its action, so he pulled the gelding up; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Novis Adventus (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities and the gelding had returned sound.
