R.M. Power, rider of Stolberg trained by A.J. McNamara, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount did not feel sound and was pulled up thereafter. Miss J.M. Mangan, rider of Fiddlers Bow trained by James Joseph Mangan, reported to the Clerk of Scales that her mount blew up in running. The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Fiddlers Bow, ridden by Miss J.M. Mangan, and trained by James Joseph Mangan. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. Miss J.M. Mangan, stated that her instructions were to jump off towards the rear, get her mount settled into a good jumping rhythm and to ride her mount to finish well, bearing in mind that this horse had missed some work prior to today, owing to coughing. She said that she kept her mount wide throughout in order to stay on the better ground and that her mount travelled and jumped well, but did jump very big over some hurdles and may be better suited to a fence in the future. She said that her mount blew up before the last bend when she allowed him a chance to fill it's lungs, before staying on again in the home straight. She said that she had attempted to use her whip on three occasions in the closing stages but on the first attempt, had got her whip caught in the reins and on another, she had failed to connect. James Joseph Mangan, confirmed the instructions given and expressed his satisfaction with the ride. He confirmed that the horse's in his yard were coughing of late and although his charge was as fit as he could have it for today, it had missed out on some vital work leading up to this race. He further added that his charge may benefit from a longer trip in the future. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Fiddlers Bow was found to be post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanation offered and advised Miss Mangan to be seen to make more of an effort in the future. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Stolberg, trained by A.J. McNamara, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be clinically abnormal post race.
