he worked very well last season but disappointed when we brought him to Newbury for a bumper. We had thought he could run in a Cheltenham bumper as he was working so well at home. He then fell over hurdles and we put him away and he’s come back more like the horse he was showing us last year - maybe he just needed a summer's grass. That was a fantastic performance and I'm not sure where he'll go - we'll see how he comes out of this first. W P Mullins, trainer

The Stewards fined John E. Kiely, trainer, ?350 for lodging a passport in respect of Django Du Pecos (FR), in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order. The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, Mr.P.W.Murtagh, that K.M. Donoghue, rider of Get It Back, attempted to weigh out with a Level 1 body protector and when instructed to change to a level 2 protector, presented himself to scales at two pounds overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who accepted the report. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Rules 195(i), 198(v) and 198(vii)(a) and having considered his record suspended him for 7 racedays for his safety equipment and a further two days for being 2 pounds overweigh, that had not been declared, it being his second offence in this regard. The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Look Closer, ridden by Rachael Blackmore, and trained by Miss Ellmarie Holden. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned and also from Ray Cody, assistant trainer. Rachael Blackmore, stated that her instructions were to settle her mount three quarters way back giving him confidence, to try get him to finish the race well and to run to the best of his ability. She added that the horse jumped novicey and she slowly crept into the race but ultimately emptied in the straight. Miss Ellmarie Holden, confirmed the instructions and expressed her satisfaction with the ride. Ray Cody added that the horse emptied on his last start and felt that the horse had to be held onto to get the trip on this ground. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Look Closer was 1 out of 5 lame on the right hind post race. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that there was a breach of Rule 212a(ii) and having considered their records Miss Holden was fined ?2,000, Look Closer was suspended for 42 days and the rider was suspended for 5 racedays and ordered to forfeit her riding fee. The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Bench Marker, ridden by J.M. Moore, and trained by Paul Nolan. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. J.M. Moore, stated that his instructions were to jump off handy behind the leaders. He added that the horse never travelled but stayed on past beaten horses in the straight. Paul Nolan, stated that he was happy with the ride but the horse would benefit from a step up in trip. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Bench Marker was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.
