Permission was given for Mahato (GB) to go early to post wearing a red hood, for Swift Storm (IRE) to wear a red hood to post and for Beale Street (GB) to be mounted on the chute.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference approximately one furlong out involving the winner, Pals Battalion (IRE), ridden by David Nolan and Modern Times (GB), placed second, ridden by Andrew Mullen.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Pals Battalion (IRE)’s placing as despite giving Modern Times (GB) a slight bump and moving the gelding marginally off its intended line, Pals Battalion (IRE) appeared to always be holding Modern Times (GB) to win comfortably by a neck at the line under a hands and heels ride.
Nolan was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he switched Pals Battalion (IRE) off the heels of Caffu Zafeen (IRE), unplaced, and in doing so, gave a light bump to Modern Times (GB), carrying the gelding slightly off its intended line.
