An enquiry was held into the running and riding of BORN TO REASON (IRE), ridden by Shane Kelly and trained by Kevin Frost, which after settling worse than midfield and being asked for an effort approximately 2 ½ furlongs out, stayed on under tender handling in the home straight to finish eighth, beaten by 11 ½ lengths. The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race. The rider stated he had no specific instructions however, it was agreed with the trainer that he would endeavour to be prominent and there was an importance placed on obtaining cover. He added that on leaving the stalls he suffered interference which resulted in him being further back than intended. He further added that due to the slow early pace, BORN TO REASON (IRE) had run very freely throughout, a fact he had reported at Scales. Kelly explained that the gelding had failed to respond to his urgings approaching the home turn and in the early part of the straight and upon feeling that his mount had no more to give following its earlier exertions he therefore held BORN TO REASON (IRE) together inside the final furlong and had still obtained the best possible placing in his opinion. His explanation was noted.
