The Stewards interviewed Patrick Neville, trainer, concerning the failure to nominate a rider before the designated time for Toomdeely in this race. Evidence was heard from the trainer who stated that he had made a big effort to secure a rider for this horse prior to the designated time but due to the low weight alloted to his horse it was difficult to secure a Qualified Rider capable of riding at that weight. He eventually managed to book Miss S. Ahern but it was after the designated time. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered by the trainer and allowed the nomination of Miss S. Ahern to ride Toomdeely. The Stewards requested a report from Patrick Neville, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Rockshandy, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that this horse's form had deteriorated due to a past injury. He felt he had been slowly coming back to himself and probably appreciated today's drying ground. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation offered.

An extended handicap steeplechase for four yrs old and upwards (116 = 12st)
Weights - Top weight in the original handicap and; after the time of declarations shall not; be less than 12st and the minimum weight; is 10st 4lb
Penalties - Winner of a steeplechase after calculation of the handicap to carry 6lb extra for each such steeplechase won.
Riders - Qualified under I.N.H.S. Rules
