Barry McHugh, the rider of Dark Devil (IRE), was slow to remove the blindfold resulting in his horse being slow to start.
After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, McHugh’s explanation that he had failed to hear the Starter shout “Blinds off” and it took two attempts to remove, after having lost his grip on the first occasion, was noted.
The winner, Medalla De Oro (GB), appeared to show an improvement in form compared with its previous run at York on 14 June 2019, where the gelding finished twelfth of nineteen, beaten 16½ lengths.
Tom Clover’s representative explained that Medalla De Oro (GB) had benefitted from the reapplication of a hood on this occasion.
The gelding was routine tested.
Jack Mitchell, the rider of the winner, Medalla De Oro (GB), was suspended for 2 days for using his whip above the permitted level from approaching the final furlong.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Swift Emperor (IRE), placed second, was lame on its right fore.
Kieran Shoemark reported that Redgrave (IRE), placed fifth, hung left.
