An enquiry was held to consider why Tom Tate was running Awake My Soul (IRE) here at York on going described as Soft, having declared the gelding a non-runner at Nottingham on 09 October 2019 on ground with the same official description.
The Trainer stated that, in his opinion, the drying ground at Nottingham became tacky and with the rain forecast prior to today’s meeting and having walked the course he opted to run Awake My Soul (IRE) at York on ground which he considered to be more suitable for the gelding.
The performance of Cape Victory (IRE) which finished last of the nineteen runners, was considered.
The representative of James Tate’s explanation that the colt was unsuited by the Soft going and would prefer a quicker surface was noted.
Cape Victory (IRE) was routine tested.
Following the race, Joey Haynes reported that Badenscoth (GB), placed fourth, stumbled shortly after the start.
The Veterinary reported that a post-race examination of the winner Dubai Icon (GB) revealed the colt to have blood in its left nostril which was due to Dubai Icon (GB) rearing and hitting its head in the stalls.
