An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference from 1½ furlongs out, when the winner, Outback Boy (IRE), ridden by Ben Curtis interfered with Carrigillihy (GB), placed second, ridden by David Allan.
The Stewards considered that the interference had improved Outback Boy (IRE)’s placing as Carrigillihy (GB) had been carried across the track for a considerable distance by Outback Boy (IRE), losing more ground than the short head it was beaten by and revised the placings as follows: First – Carrigillihy (GB); Second – Outback Boy (IRE).
The interference was found to be accidental as Outback Boy (IRE) had hung left, despite the rider’s best efforts carrying Carrigillihy (GB) off its intended line.
David Allan, the rider of the winner Carrigillihy (GB), was suspended for 2 days for using his whip above the permitted level from approaching 2 furlongs out.
