- Stewards Report
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Pure Bubbles (GER), ridden by Tom Queally and trained by Gary Moore, as the horse appeared to be ridden intermittently during the final 6 furlongs, finishing fourth of seven, beaten by 2 ¼ lengths.
The rider and the trainer’s representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the colt, during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated that he was instructed by Moore to ride Pure Bubbles (GER) as he found him.
He added that he broke smartly and then dropped in behind the winner, Tamborrada (GB).
He further added that Pure Bubbles (GER) was on and off the bridle throughout the race, ran greenly and hung right-handed, a fact which he did not report at Scales.
He explained that this resulted in him being unable to ride as effectively as he would have wanted.
The trainer’s representative stated that they were happy with the ride and that it accorded with the instructions given.
Their explanations were noted and Queally was fined £140 for failing to report that Pure Bubbles (GER) hung right-handed.
On the run to the line, Too Friendly (GB), placed second, drifted right as the winner, Tamborrada (GB), drifted left causing Robert Havlin, the rider of Defined (GB), placed third, to ease for a stride, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Too Friendly (GB) or Tamborrada (GB).
