The Stewards interviewed C.R. King, rider of Zylan, concerning the fact that he appeared to move across before reaching the marker poles. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered evidence from the rider, the Stewards were of the opinion C.R. King was in breach of Rule 211 in that he failed to ride in a straight line from his draw position, and having taken his good record into account, they cautioned him. The Stewards requested a report from Patrick Martin, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Ishebayorgrey, winner, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that his second last run at Fairyhouse on 29th September was at the end of a long season and he thought that he gone over the top. He decided then to give him a break and he returned to the track here in Dundalk on 18th December over a mile and he was dropped out to get the trip but he failed to get into the race. Tonight, he was ridden more prominently in mid division over a more favourable trip and this may have brought about any apparent improvement in form. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanations offered. Gary Paul Halpin, rider of Firecrown trained by John M. Oxx, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount may not have handled the track. G.F. Carroll, rider of Deeds Not Words, trained by J.F. Levins, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran free last time out and so his instructions were to get him to settle and do his best from there. He stated he dropped him out, got him to settle, and he picked up under hands and heels in the straight where he was denied a clear run.
