It was a super ride from Hugh and he rode him exactly to instructions. He needs a good strong ride and you have to keep at him the whole time. I’m delighted for the lads (Garristown Aintree Syndicate). He was third in the Midlands National but a bit disappointing that he’s not won this year up until now. They are nearly all Dubs so they have done a lot of celebrating over the last few days. We’ll enjoy today and look for a similar type contest in the near future.
Henry De Bromhead, trainer
The Stewards requested a report from Henry de Bromhead, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Full Cry, placed first, as compared with its recent form. Henry de Bromhead stated that his charge pulled up on his previous run having found the pace too quick and the distance too sharp. Mr. de Bromhead added that the longer distance today in addition to being top weight suited his charge better and explained the improvement in form
Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation offered
The Stewards interviewed C.D. Maxwell, rider of Freewheelin Dylan, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that C.D. Maxwell was in breach of Regulation 10.4, in that he used his whip without giving his mount time to respond, and having considered his record in this regard cautioned him on this occasion
M.J. Bolger, rider of Carlitos Bay trained by Peter Fahey, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount stopped quickly and pulled up.
An extended handicap steeplechase for four yrs old and upwards (130 = 11st 10lb)
Weights - Top weight in the original handicap; shall not be less than 11st 10lb
Penalties - Winner of a steeplechase after calculation of the handicap to carry 4lb extra for each such steeplechase won
