Listowel maiden winner NO STRINGS made a successful return to action with a game performance to hold off Fiery Lad.

Held up in the early stages he moved closer before the bend and improved to challenge two furlongs out. He was soon in front but was strongly pressed by Fiery Lad from over a furlong out.

Dermot Weld's charge stuck to his task well in first time blinkers and kept on determinedly to record a narrow verdict.

Fiery Lad was also produced from off the pace, throwing down his challenge a furlong-and-a-half out. He ran on gamely but just failed to find a way past the winner.

Mid Mon Lady was still last two furlongs out but worked her way into third over a furlong out. She was switched to the inner to issue a challenge but couldn't get on terms.

Front-runner Tarakaza still had a handy lead before the bend but was reeled back early in the straight and weakened quickly after being headed.

The well-backed Veidhleadoir (9/4 to 6/4f) tracked the leaders but was dropped out quickly approaching the half-mile pole and pulled up. Kevin Manning reported that the filly lost her action and she was found to be clinically abnormal post-race.
