K.J. Leonard, rider of Enzani trained by John C. McConnell, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made a respiratory noise five furlongs out. C.P. Hoban, rider of Skerray Rules trained by M.Halford, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount lost his action in the straight. The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Enzani, ridden by K.J. Leonard, and trained by John C. McConnell. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. K.J. Leonard, stated that his instructions were to drop his horse out the back, get some cover and creep into the race, without hitting the front too soon. He added that the horse made a respiratory noise five furlongs out, before staying on past beaten horse's. John C. McConnell, stated that the horse was having his first run in over a year and should improve for the run and for a step back up in trip. He expressed his satisfaction with the ride but felt the rider could have been stronger in the finish. The trainer also confirmed that the horse has a history of respiratory problems. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Enzani was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered but advised K.J.Leonard to be seen to be more forceful in the finish in future.

Penalties - Performances before 1st February for every 1lb above the rating of 65 1lb extra; On or after 1st February for every race won 5lb extra; Horses that have not run three times and/or do not have a published handicap rating are eligible to enter and run at the discretion of the handicapper.
