- Stewards Report
An enquiry was held to consider the second, third and fifth placings in this race after possible interference approximately ½ furlong out involving Maketh Believeth (IRE), placed third, ridden by Christian Howarth, Vindolanda (GB), placed second, ridden by Owen Lewis and Way Of Life (GB), placed fifth, ridden by Rhys Clutterbuck.
Being a 7lb claiming apprentice, Lewis was offered accompaniment in the enquiry, but declined.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Maketh Believeth (IRE) and Vindolanda (GB)’s placings, as they had both gone past and appeared to be holding Way Of Life (GB) when the interference occurred.
The interference was found to be accidental as Way Of Life (GB) received marginal pressure from both sides causing Clutterbuck to become awkwardly placed on heels when weakening and to briefly stop riding.
Aiden Brookes, the rider of the winner, Fair Star (IRE) was also interviewed, but found not to be involved with regards to this incident.
However, the Stewards cautioned Brookes for careless riding as he had allowed his mount to drift right-handed without timely correction causing Howarth to be moved off his intended line.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Vindolanda (GB), placed second, lost its right fore shoe.
