An enquiry was held to consider the placings following an objection from Raphael Freire, the trainer of Hotline Bling (IRE), placed fifth, ridden by Manuel Martinez, to the winner, Rocchigiani (GB), ridden by Tom Marquand, on the grounds of interference approximately 1 ½ furlongs out.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Rocchigiani (GB)’s placing as the interference occurred with sufficient distance from the winning post at a time when Marquand had raced from behind Hotline Bling (IRE) and was passing the colt at the time to easily win by 4 ½ lengths which was more than the momentum lost as a result of the interference.
Marquand was suspended for 3 days for careless riding as he failed to leave sufficient room for the 2 runners on his inside at the dog leg causing Martinez to become short for room and have to take a check.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that The Wizard Of Eye (IRE), placed second, had lost its left fore shoe.
