"A serious horse," was how Pat Flynn's travelling head lad Martin Maguire described Prince Shaun after he made it two from two with a narrow victory over the well fancied Red Eye Express.
The Acclamation gelding was the most expensive two-year-old purchase at the Goresbridge Sales last year and he is certainly beginning to live up to his potential. Indeed having been backed from 14/1 in offices this morning some of that Goresbridge money was certainly reimbursed.
Danny Grant took it up at the two furlong pole and from there he went on to score by a head from Red Eye Express.
When hitting the front two down, Prince Shaun was taking over from Remind Me Monday who bolted on leaving the gates giving young Keegan Latham a very uncomfortable journey out in front and it was little surprise to see him eased down approaching the line.
Red Eye Express was well backed to score here and money was floating about this morning for the Guineas too and in fairness to John Oxx's charge he may have come up against quite a decent sort and those Guineas investors may not be too far off the mark just yet.
The Giant's Causeway colt finished strongly but just failed to collar the winner while Greatwallofchina was held up throughout and stayed on without challenging the front two.
Houston Dynimo may appreciate a return to 12 furlongs and The Fist Of God put in a credible effort and there could well be a nice pot in him during the summer.
