Permission was given for Sumo Sam (GB), Sunset Point (GB) and Greysful Storm (IRE) to wear a red hood to post and Tamilla (GB) wore ear plugs which were removed at the start.
Rounding the final turn, Sumo Sam (GB), unplaced, edged slightly left-handed and made contact with Ermesinde (IRE), unplaced, which caused the filly to become unbalanced, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
The performance of Alpina Express (IRE), which finished last of eight runners, beaten 27 ¾ lengths, was considered.
It was noted that Charlie Johnston’s representative could offer no explanation for the filly’s poor performance other than the report from Joe Fanning that in his opinion the filly was unsuited by the step up in grade.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Alpina Express (IRE), during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Following the race, Billy Loughnane reported that Sumo Sam (GB), unplaced, was slow away.
