Elisha Whittington, the rider of the winner, Ballet Red (FR), was suspended for 4 days for using her whip above the permitted level from just inside the two furlong marker and in the incorrect place on the run to the line.

Being a 7lb claimer, Whittington was offered the opportunity to be accompanied in the enquiry, but declined.

The performance of Orange Suit (IRE) which started favourite and finished seventh, was considered.

The representative of Ed de Giles’s explained that the gelding lost interest when headed entering the home straight.

He indicated that the trainer may experiment with a different form of headgear in future.

His explanation was noted.

An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Totally Committed (GB), ridden by Oliver Searle and trained by Rod Millman which after jumping awkwardly, was heavily restrained in the early stages and became majorly detached from the remainder of the field before being asked for an effort approximately 3 furlongs out and making up a significant amount of ground, to finish last of the nine runners, beaten 18½ lengths.

The rider and the representative of Rod Millman were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that two post-race examinations of the gelding during routine testing revealed Totally Committed (GB) to be slightly lame on its right-fore.

The rider stated that his instructions were to jump out and sit where he found himself and not to fire the gelding up, as he has a history of being keen at home.

Searle added that after jumping very awkwardly and losing some ground, he considered the early pace to be quick and therefore wanted to keep Totally Committed (GB) travelling and where he was comfortable, before placing the gelding under pressure inside the final 3 furlongs.

The trainer’s representative confirmed the instructions and stated that he was dissatisfied with the ride given as he considered that Searle had surrendered too much ground in the first half of the race.

Searle was suspended for 10 days for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing, in that he had allowed Totally Committed (GB) to get too far out of contention without making any effort to improve his position until approximately 3 furlongs out.

Following the race, Aled Beech reported that Scorched Breath (GB), placed fourth, hung right-handed.
