Preview curragh 23rd May
Classic weekend at the Curragh continues as the fillies get their chance to shine in the Etihad Airways Irish 1,000 Guineas.
The large field would suggest there's no single stand-out performer in the race, but one who looked capable of becoming a major star last year was Termagant.
Kevin Prendergast's ace won both starts at two, including the Group One Moyglare Stud Stakes and this extra furlong should suit.
Aidan O'Brien has a battalion of runners led by Lillie Langtry, while Newmarket sixth Music Show and French import Anna Salai head the British raiding party.
O'Brien has every chance of landing the other Group One on the card, the Tattersalls Gold Cup, courtesy of Fame And Glory.
Last year's Irish Derby hero was disappointing on his return to action, but went on to win the Mooresbridge Stakes and appears to be peaking at the right time.
Cutlass Bay should give him plenty to think about having scooped the Prix Ganay before switching to Saeed bin Suroor, while Chinese White is a classy performer and returned with a win last time.
There's further Group-race action with the Airlie Stud Gallinule Stakes, which could see Jim Bolger's Shintoh take the next step up the ladder.
The son of Giant's Causeway saw off the challenge of Encompassing in some style at Navan last week and similar improvement could help him get the better of O'Brien's top-class Jan Vermeer and the David Wachman-trained Barbadine.
The meeting kicks off at 1.40 with the Yas EBF Maiden, in which Johnny Murtagh has opted to ride High Ruler from the Ballydoyle quartet.
Galileo's Choice bids to return to winning ways in the United Arab Emirates Handicap, while the Jondol Furniture Handicap is an open affair, with last-time-out winners Lough Mist, Enigma Code, Ruby Suesday and Polar Explorer all likely to make their presence felt once more.
