Woodfield flies home in handicap chase
Doctor Woodfield overcame doubts about the firm ground to run out an easy winner of the Belvedere House Gardens & Park Handicap Chase at Kilbeggan.
Denis Hogan sent the Cecil Ross-trained gelding to the front after the second last and he had too much in hand for Trotsky going on for a 14-length succcess.
His task was made somewhat easier when Scavenger who had going well in front, crashed out at the third last.
The winner is owned by the Home On The Range Syndicate, which includes two sisters of the trainer and their husbands.
"He's been ready for a while. We've been waiting on rain but decided to take a chance and hopefully we've got away with it," said Ross.
"Ideally he'd want a cut but no more than that. Hopefully he'll come back here for the Midlands National."
