Dundalk course specialist Wild Shot gained a fifth career win, all at the Co Louth venue, today as the Noel Kelly trained gelding landed the opening View Restaurant January Special Handicap under jockey Shane Kelly.
Jockey Kelly, no relation to the winning trainer, raced the son of So You Think prominently throughout and in the closing furlong the pair went clear to beat No Trouble by two and a half lengths.
Afterwards Co Derry based trained Noel Kelly stated “he’s very slow to come out of the stalls but tonight he went in last and got a lovely break. He’s very straight forward to ride but he just goes into the stalls and sits and that’s lost him a number of races.
“That mile and a half with a long run to the corner suits him well. That’s his mark and when he goes up too much he can’t win. He’s a good wee sport horse and has won four for me at Dundalk.”
Wild Shot's initial win, before he joined Kelly, was gained at Dundalk on August 2017 for trainer Damian English.
