Jockey Brian Toomey "continues to make progress" from serious head injuries suffered in a fall at Perth on July 4.

Toomey, 24, was hurt when the Lisa Harrison-trained Solway Dandy fell heavily three out in the Book Now For 2014 Perth Festival Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle.

He remains in the High Dependency Unit of Ninewells Hospital Dundee, where he underwent an operation to reduce swelling on his brain on July 7.

Toomey is attached to the North Yorkshire yard of Kevin Ryan, and is the partner of the trainer's daughter, Amy.

Lisa Hancock, CEO of the Injured Jockeys Fund, said in a statement on Monday: "Brian Toomey's mother, Marian, has told us this afternoon that Brian remains in the High Dependency Unit at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, and continues to make progress.

"Marian says 'Brian is able to move all four limbs and is no longer reliant on a respirator but his breathing is being assisted by a tracheotomy. Although no longer in a coma he does get very tired and needs lots of rest. At this time we therefore ask that his visitors are restricted to close family only'.

"Brian's family and girlfriend, Amy Ryan, would once again like to thank everyone for their continued support and all the cards and messages they have received."
