Listed-placed Tobann was allowed to go off at 16/1 for the valuable Sovereign Path Handicap at Leopardstown and she made no mistake with Rory Cleary doing the steering.
She travelled smoothly and picked off Jamesie 100 yards from home and put a length and three quarters between them at the line, at the end of seven furlongs of racing. This gave her a winning pot of 60,000 euro when beating her 17 rivals in this uber-competitive contest.
Jamesie had hit the front at the furlong marker, but still picked up 19,000 euro for second at 12/1. Machete Mark (11/2) and Eastern Rules at 10/1 rounded out the placings.
“She has been in great form recently and was a bit unlucky a few times. There was nothing travelling better turning in. It was just a question of whether she got the splits,” trainer Jim Bolger said.
“She might go for another of these with one of my good claimers on. She has a lovely turn of foot. She has been black-type placed when flying at Naas [second in Listed Owenstown Stud Stakes to Reply].
“She doesn’t handle it too soft.”
