Tirghra finally tops on start number 14

Jim Bolger's Tirghra might have been searching for her initial success on start number fourteen. She still went off a 5/4 chance for the Crowne Plaza Hotel Race & Stay Fillies & Mares Maiden and the Teofilo three-year-old got home by half a length.
We nearly had a huge shock in this miler as 66/1 outsider Lady Cooper gave Tirghra a real fright whilst El Dem I didn't go un-backed and came home well for third, three parts of a length back.
Tirghra just shaded Chicago Girl for favouritism. The latter again didn't come up to scratch, finishing three lengths back in fourth.
"She's not the biggest and isn't really suited by carrying big weights in handicaps like here last time," said Manning.
"She's genuine and I always thought I would get there. I'd imagine she'll come back for a handicap.
"It was a modest contest and she was entitled to win." (GC & EM)
