The Willie Mullins-trained Bachasson opened his chasing account in fine style when claiming the opening beginners chase at Gowran Park this afternoon.
Ruby Walsh tracked the front-running General Principle on the 11/4 shot and he moved up to dispute in the back straight.
Bachasson edged ahead after the third last and was in control before the final fence. Walsh could afford to ease down on the run-in for a six-and-a-half length success.
The winner, in the colours of Edward O'Connell, was making his third start over fences. He had fallen on his debut at Thurles before chasing home Edwulf at Punchestown last month.
"I was very pleased with how he handled that ground. I didn't think he could jump as well out of that ground. I thought he was more of a good ground horse, and it was good to see him do that,” said Mullins.
"He's improving, and that was a real step up on what he'd done before. That could put him in the picture to go across (to Cheltenham) or aim for the Ryanair Chase in Fairyhouse."
