Theobald got off the mark for 2018 at Dundalk tonight as the Jim Bolger trained colt landed the Floodlit Friday Nights Handicap under stable jockey Kevin Manning.
Theobald, a son of Teofilo, won twice as a juvenile last year and while he failed to win in 10 previous starts this year, came good today when beating King's Field by a length and three parts.
Bolger's travelling head man Ger Flynn later commented “that's two for him up here now and the boss kept the faith with him all the time and was rewarded with that.
“He seems to handle that surface well and seemed to do that cosily. He was entitled to do that off his rating.
“He's been mixing it with the best all year and we decided to drop him into handicap company. Hopefully it's onwards and upwards and it was a nice pot (E15,375 to the winner) to win.”
