Radanpour wins on debut for Weld/Smullen

There may have been a reverse for the Weld team in the preceding fillies maiden, with the odds-on Chinese Light but the Rosewell House outfit were quickly back on track as the Aga Khan's newcomer Radanpour landed the Join The Tipperary Supporters Club (C & G) Maiden under Pat Smullen.
Ballydoyle scuppered Chinese Light with Diamondsandrubies but roles were reversed here as the O'Brien-trained and ridden Jacobean (11/10) failed to find what he'd threatened to at the business end.
Conversely Radanpour found plenty for pressure, after being slowly into stride at the start, and he headed the front-runner, Novis Adventus close home, prevailing by half a length.
"He is a fine big horse who got a brilliant ride from Pat. We'll see how he progresses but I love the way he put his head down and battled," reflected Weld.
"He should stay as the year progresses and while it wasn't the best of maidens, he is a nice horse and he won." (TW & EM)
