Newberry New (7/2, 2nd fav) was good at Gowran a week ago and he built on that to land the Grade 3 Winning Fair Juvenile Hurdle at Fairyhouse under Robbie Power.
One of two runners in the six horse field for Jessica Harrington, the victorious Kodiac gelding, off the mark on attempt number six seven days back, was left in front after the early departure of Thywillbedone here.
It looked to be going to plan for the patiently ridden but keen going Voix Du Reve (8/15) when he got on terms travelling well before the last.
Soon narrowly in front under Ruby Walsh, the 'jolly' was headed and could find no extra close home by the rallying Newberry New.
In the end Newberry New had half a length in hand over the dead-heating pair Voix Du Reve, and the staying on Tocororo
"He's improving, and heavy ground is his thing. He used to get to the front and then curl up but he really battled today. He was very good and it still amazes me how well he stays," said Mrs Harrington.
"It's most likely that he will come back here at Easter time but I'll have to discuss it with Noel (Carter, owner). He's had two tough races so he may need a little break.
"I was delighted with Barnacle Bill (fourth). It was his first hurdle run and he was in against seasoned horses."
