Kalann wins Galway prep in style

Sun 10th Jul 2011, 17:20

Smart hurdler Kalann made a successful switch back to the level when claiming the concluding mile-and-a-half handicap at Fairyhouse.

Gary Carroll produced his mount with a well-timed run to hit the front at the furlong pole.

The Sabrina Harty-trained gelding kept on well in the closing stages to record a two-length victory over Gypsie Queen

It was the winners' first start since finishing third over timber at the Punchestown Festival and Galway is now on the agenda.

"He's a nice horse. He's Aga Khan bred and we got him at the sales for only €1,000," said Harty.

"Mentally he has the best head on him. He wasn't fully wound up today. This was a prep run for Galway. He'll have a couple of entries there.

"He had been a bit weak in his races so I gave him a holiday after Punchestown."
