Jones picks up ten day ban
The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Street Wizard ridden by Robert Jones, and trained by William Joseph O'Doherty.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that his instructions were to settle his mount in mid-division, while getting some cover. He added that he ran freely in the early stages, jumped poorly and made a respiratory noise in the later stages. Having viewed the video the rider felt that in hindsight he should have ridden the horse more prominently and pushed him out more in the straight.
Evidence was also heard from the trainer concerned who confirmed the instructions adding that he is a very immature young horse. The trainer also expressed dissatisfaction with the ride and felt that he should have made more of an effort in the straight. The Turf Club vetinary officer stated that Street Wizard was post race normal.
Having viewed the video of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the trainers explaination, however Robert Jones was deemed to be in breach of Rule 212(i), having made insufficient effort and was suspended for ten race days.
