In-form Fiesole lands McEnery Cup
The Eoin Doyle trained Fiesole maintained his excellent recent form with another win at Gowran today, landing the prestigious McEnery Cup Handicap under jockey Denis Linehan.
Linehan was substituting for injured jockey Ross Coakley on the son of Montjeu and the pair picked up well in the closing stages for a half length win over Here For The Craic
Fiesole was today registering his fourth win in six races, having filled in second place on the other two occasions, for form figures of ’121121’ since May.
Afterwards Doyle, who traditionally targets Tramore’s August festival which starts tomorrow, said “I was a little concerned about the ground but he did it well. He had a bit of form over hurdles with an ease but I think he’s a bit better on a quicker surface. In fairness Denis (Linehan) said he picked up well and if anything he got there a bit soon and just idled in front.
“We had him declared on the Friday evening in Galway but didn’t run as we thought it went that bit too soft. He could go to Listowel; he’s only 109 over hurdles, and maybe there is another good handicap in him on the Flat.”
